OUR STORY
According to Greek mythology, Atlas was the titanic giant who held the heavenly bodies aloft in the sky. This myth evolved over many years until Atlas was believed to hold up the very foundations of the Earth. This myth was referenced by the author Ayn Rand in her novel, "Atlas Shrugged", a compelling novel about the values of reason, property rights, individualism, and capitalism. The ideas expressed in this novel were the inspiration for me to stop working for others and start working for myself.
My name is Dallas Colton. I grew up in the small town of Kountze, TX. I was raised by two amazing parents in the same neighborhood that my dad grew up in. My family and I now live in that same neighborhood just a couple of blocks down from my parents. We attend Gateway Church in Kountze. My wife, Jessica, and I serve in various ministries at church including youth, nursery, and the worship team. Our 3 children, Aria, Sebastian, and Everett, are our greatest blessings! We even have a giant floofy dog named Elsa.
I have been consistently employed since the age of 16. Before that, I learned the value of hard work from the elders of my family. My grandmother would pay all the grandkids $5 for a good report card and my grandfather would pay $20 for a few hours of yard work. It didn't take long for me to figure out that if I wanted something, I would have to apply myself, mind and body, to achieving my goal. I had the example of two parents who worked tirelessly to make a good life for their children. I was taught to give my best effort no matter what the task or job was that needed to be done. My dad would say, "I don't care if you grow up to be a garbage truck rider, just be the best garbage truck rider you can be." This stuck with me as I grew up, went to school, got a job, got married, became a father, and started my own business.
I took an interest in home inspection at first because it was something that I could do alone. After 10 years of being an employer, I was tired of having to rely on unreliable people for my business to operate. Reliable workers were becoming harder to find as the years passed. I was the Managing Partner for a restaurant franchise and I felt like the weight of the entire world was on my shoulders. I needed a way out. I faced a quandry that I had encountered before in Ayn Rand's novel -"If you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with the last of his strength, and the greater his effort the heavier the world bore down upon his shoulders - What would you tell him?" The answer was simple: "To shrug".
Atlas Real Estate Inspections, PLLC was born in January of 2022. It was the answer to my quandry. As I have learned and grown in the business, I have developed a passion for serving people through my trade. I love channeling my attention to detail and using it to inform people about their potential home purchases. I love learning about how the many systems and components of a home work together and sharing that knowlege with my clients. I love helping my clients save their hard earned money by arming them with information that they can use to negotiate the terms of their contracts. It is my commitment to each and every client that I will always give my best effort and I will always defend their best interests.
